Thanks to Carl and the folks at the Safina Center for naming me a Safina Center fellow. I've long admired Carl's work and look forward to working with him. And the fellowship will help me travel and reach out to more readers of The Shark Whisperer. Woo Hoo!!!

And today the Miami-Dade School Board gave me a special recognition for the work I'm doing to bring ocean science and reading to students of all ages. It was a lovely ceremony and I especially appreciated being in the company of the National Teacher of the Year for migrants.

And one last fun news item, the latest quote about the book:

"Books that excite kids, that’s the best kind of summer reading!  Sea creatures, high adventure and a likable main charactermake The Shark Whisperer a must-have for your family beach tote (if you’re a parent) or end-of-school recommendation (if you’re a teacher)."-  Pencil Tips Writing Workshop Strategies from Children's Authors and Illustrators
